Mayo U.18 2-0 Sligo/Leitrim U.18:
Mayo got their Snickers/FAI Youths Inter League
competition back on track against Sligo/Leitrim
on Milebush on Saturday. Following their unlucky
1-0 defeat away to Inishowen, Mayo knew that a win
would keep their interest in the competition alive
and the chances came in the first half, mainly through
Mickey Sweeney. At the other end, Gary McNicholas
kept Mayo in the game with some good goalkeeping.
The second half saw Mayo making their breakthrough,
when Ger O’Boyle produced a left foot rocket into
the top corner. Minutes later, his brother, Ronan
O’Boyle produced a lovely sidefoot to make it 2-0.
David Lowther was inspirational in the middle of
midfield and the result means that Mayo needs to
beat Donegal in their final group game.
International Caps: David Cawley came on

| The Late Mary Walsh: With
deep regret, the Mayo Schoolboys/Girls and Youths
AFL records the passing of Vice Chairperson, Mary
Walsh, who died on Friday morning after a short
illness. Mary was an active member of the committee
over the last number of years and was very popular
within girls’ soccer. Removal took place from
O’Malley’s Funeral Director’s,
Ballinrobe to St. Mary’s Church before one
of the largest crowds seen at a funeral in the Lake
District capital and there was a guard of honour
drawn from all the organisations she was involved
in on Saturday evening. In his homily during Requiem
Mass on Sunday morning in a packed to overflowing
church with the ceremony relayed to people who could
not get into the church, Fr. Michael Gormally CC
described Mary as a second mother to many children
and that she would be a loss not only to Ballinrobe
and South Mayo, but to Mayo and Ireland. Mary’s
motto was that there was never a problem but there
was always a solution. Amongst the Offertory gifts
was a football. While the choir was singing
“Going Home”, Mary’s remains were
carried shoulder high down through the church and
a guard of honour was formed as Mary was brought
to her place of rest. To husband, Martin, sons,
Damien and David, daughter, Katie, mother, Winifred
(Keane) and other family members, the LMC of the
MSGYAFL would like to extend a vote of sympathy.
NOTE: Anyone interested in sending messages of sympathy can
do so on www.mayoyouths.ie.

Kennedy Cup: Mayo completed their 2005
Umbro/SFAI Kennedy U.13 Cup campaign in seventh
place after a week of tough football and while
the side may not have won the competition, they
won many admirers for their style of play and
their attitude. Mayo started their Kennedy Cup
campaign on Monday evening against Inishowen and
pretty much dominated the game with nice, intricate
passing. Mayo took the lead through Ross Kenny
with a firm header that the keeper got a hand
to to claw away. Ronan Murray terrorised the defence
with his pace and deservedly made it 2-0 close
to half time. Inishowen pulled a goal back through
a harshly given penalty, but Murray put broad
daylight between the sides to wrap the game at
3-1. For his efforts, Ronan Murray was named Player
of the Day by the SFAI and his reward for his
performance was a pair of football boots sponsored
by Umbro. Mayo had to deal with a tough clash
against Carlow on Tuesday morning and Ian Durkan
kept Mayo in the game with a wonderful first half
save. Mayo came more into the game in the second
half and Dylan Webb opened the scoring from close
range. Danny McNicholas wrapped it up with a bullet
header to make it 2-0 for the Westerners. Tuesday
evening saw Mayo pit their wits against Dundalk
and Dundalk made a tired Mayo team that needed
only a point to qualify for the cup proper work
hard. Dundalk looked dangerous going forward and
Mayo thanked their lucky stars for some tired
finishing. Mayo got to grips and substitute, Enda
McGahon put Mayo in front just before half time
with a pearler of a free kick. Mayo took over
the second half and it took another laser-accurate
free kick from Enda McGahon to wrap up the points
and the group for Mayo with another 2-0 victory.
The price of winning Group 6 was a difficult tie
against perennial favourites for the competition,
DDSL on Wednesday. The Dublin side took an early
lead while Mayo were protesting a throw in. DDSL
won a free on the right and it was punished on
the far post. Mayo could have made it 1-1 when
Ronan Murry went through on goal and hit the butt
of the post with the keeper beaten. DDSL went
on the attack again and won a corner. The delivery
was ruthless to the far post and Mayo were 2-0
down from a header. Mayo did not capitulate and
kept battling along the way. Ian Durkan was superb
between the sticks and Danny McNicholas impervious
at centre half. However, when Mayo got a rhytm
going, they were muscled out of it by their more
physical imposing opponents. The killer third
goal came early in the second half when DDSL were
awarded what would be considered to be a harsh
penalty, which got tucked away. Mayo kept battling
all the ways and in defeat, the boys were applauded
off the pitch. In the Kennedy Plate semi final
on Thursday morning, Mayo were lined up against
Cork and it was a game that was dominated by both
defences. Cork were always that little bit more
dangerous in front of goal and took the lead from
close range. With the clock running out, Enda
McGahon netted another free kick, with the aid
of the goalkeeper's hand. The game went to extra
time and a scoreless first period, Cork took advantage
of a tiring Mayo side and netted twice to win
the game 3-1 after extra time. Thursday evening
saw the 7th-8th place playoff between Mayo and
Donegal and it turned out to be a strange game
of football. Mayo opened the game very strongly
and took a deserved lead through David Cawley.
After the early domination, Mayo started to play
loose football and Donegal hit the woodwork twice
before going into the break at 2-1 ahead. Mayo
found their purpose again early in the second
half and Ryan Connolly put the sides level again
before David Cawley made it 3-2. Enda McGahon
netted before Cawley bagged his hat trick to make
the game safe at 5-2. Donegal nipped a consolation
to make it 5-3 but it was a satisfactory ending
to a good Kennedy Cup showing. The players were
a credit to their clubs, families and to the league,
not only for the ways they played football but
for the excellent conduct they had shown all week.
Best for Mayo were Ronan Murray, Danny McNicholas,
Danny Fallon and David Cawley.
Congrats: The LMC of the MSGYAFL would
like to extend their congratulations to Westport
United on winning the Statoil FAI Junior Cup against
Waterford Crystal in Buckley Park, Kilkenny, yesterday.
The achievement is a first for Mayo soccer at
Junior level and it follows the success of Erris
United in the FAI Youth Cup 14 months ago. Most
of the current Westport United squad played for
the Mayo underage sides and played with pride,
honour and distinction. Not only the side brought
success, more importantly, to their own town,
they also brought success to their own county
and the standards they have set in the heat of
Kilkenny will help the aspirations of all our
children playing soccer across Mayo. Also, congratulations
are also being extended to Bohola NS on their
success of winning the Ribena National Schools
5 A Side competition last week. Good Luck: To
David Joyce, Castlebar Celtic on his call up by
Vinny Butler to the Republic of Ireland U.15 squad
for the Tenerife Tournament from June 23rd to
June 26th. David Joyce has certainly being a regular
feature in the national set up since his first
cap against Holland on November 30th.

play their outstanding games and Swinford opened
their account with a 3-1 win over Erris United.
Ballina Town have outstanding games and are capable
of moving up the table. Erris United have played
four games and have yet to record a victory but
in other seasons, they have shown to pull the
rabbit out of the bag at the finish. In Division
One, Claremorris are in cruise control with maximum
points from four games and have scored 29 goals
and have only conceded one. If they continue this
sort of form, they could well have their name
on the title. Ballinrobe Town are the best equipped
side to pounce if Claremorris do falter later
on in the season. They are second on goal difference
with a game more played. Urlar United are third
and are scoring goals. Unfortunately, they have
conceded 17, but they have certainly entertained
this season. Ballyheane are comfortable in mid
table. Achill Rovers and Conn Rangers, despite
some severe beatings, are both on four points
and are looking over their shoulder at Ballyglass
with three points. Ballyvary Blue Bombers have
only a draw to show for, but the relegation business
may get very interesting.
Blackfort Machinery Girls U.12 League: Manulla
are on the ascendancy in the league with impressive
football, which puts them top with 9 points and
19 goals scored from three games. Ballina Town
are second with nine points but not as good a
goal difference following their slow start. Another
slow starter, Ballinrobe Town are up to third
on six points while early pace setters, Swinford
have slipped to fourth. Conn Rangers are starting
to find the going tough while Ballyvary Blue Bombers
are still clamouring for their elusive victory.
Kennedy Cup: The Kennedy Cup will be taking
place in the grounds of Limerick University from
Monday 13th June to Sunday 17th June 2005. The
Mayo squad is represented by ten clubs, namely
Ballina Town, Ballyglass, Bangor Hibs, Castlebar
Celtic, Claremorris, Erris United, Kiltimagh/Knock
United, Manulla, Swinford and Westport United.
The management team is Brendan Kenny, Manager;
Paul Fielding, Assistant Manager; Liam Loftus,
Coach and Seamus McWalter, Physio. The squad will
be departing Milebush Park, Castlebar at 2:00
on Sunday 12th June and will be returning to Castlebar
at 6:30 on Friday 17th June. Mayo have been drawn
in Group 6 alongside Inishowen, Carlow and Dundalk.
Depending on standings, Mayo will be entered into
the Kennedy Cup, Plate, Bowl, Shield One or Shield
Two and the team is guaranteed football for the
full week.
Congrats: The LMC of the MSGYAFL would
like to extend their congratulations to Westport
United on reaching the final of the Statoil FAI
Junior Cup Final after their impressive 2-0 victory
against Carew Park in Limerick in what was a historic
achievement for the club and for Mayo football.
Most of the squad played underage football for
Westport United and a number of the squad played
with the Mayo underage sides. The LMC of the MSGYAFL
is encouraging all clubs in the county to come
out and support Westport United in the final.
The final will take place in Buckley Park, Kilkenny
on the 19th June at 3:00 and the LMC would like
to wish Westport United the very best of luck
for the occasion. Also, congratulations is being
extended to Danny Scahill on getting a Republic
of Ireland semi-professional cap against Wales
last Saturday in the international semi professional
tournament in Cork. Finally, a vote of congratulations
has being extended to Damien McGrath, Inver, Ballintra
and the Mayo Branch of the ISRS on being appointed
a referee for the Eircom League recently.

F.C.S. Connacht Underage Cup Finals:The final
of the FCS Connacht U.12 Cup between Mervue United
and Strand Celtic takes place in Milebush Park on
Saturday 14th May at 2:00. Please come out and support
the final. The final of the FCS Connacht U.14 Cup
between Castlebar Celtic and Athenry takes place
in Milebush Park on Monday evening, 16th May at
7:00. Please come out to cheer on Castlebar Celtic
as the Mayo representatives in the final of the
competition. The LMC of the M.S.G.Y.A.F.L. would
like to wish Castlebar Celtic the very best of luck
in the final.
A.I.B. U.12 League: The league kicked off on
Friday evening last with ten games out for grabs.
In the Premier Division, defending Champions, Kiltimagh/Knock
United were shocked 4-3 away to Westport United
in their first game in under 12 top flight since
1996. Manulla are the early pacesetters with a stylish
6-0 victory over gallant Swinford. In Division One,
Urlar United cruised to an impressive 8-0 landslide
over unfortunate Conn Rangers, while Achill Rovers
and Ballyvary Blue Bombers played out an entertaining
2-2 draw. In Division Two North, Glenhest Rovers
impressed in their 4-0 win over an enthusiastic
Killala while Claremorris C were too strong for
newcomers, Moyvilla in another 4-0 cruise, leaving
both sides top of the table. Castlebar Celtic C
played out an entertaining game against Ballina
Town B with the green and white side coming out
on top with a narrow 3-2 scoreline. In Division
Two South, Charlestown leads the way following an
emphatic 8-0 win over brave newcomers, Snugboro
United. Castlebar Celtic B were too strong for a
plucky Manulla B and came away with a 7-0 home victory.
Kiltimagh/Knock United B fairly put it up to Westport
United B but the home side ran out of steam at the
end while the West Mayo side came out with a 7-3
victory. There is a serious amount of football to
be played and judging by some of the results, there
is a very exciting season ahead for all followers
of under 12 football and there will be plenty of
unpredictable moments..
Congrats: to Hannah Callaghan from Ballinrobe
Town, who represented the Republic of Ireland Schools
International Under 15 Girls team over the bank
holiday weekend. She played in all three games versus
Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland and scored
in the first two games. Unfortunately, Eilish Collins
from Ballina Town was selected to play on the same
team but due to injury had to pull out at the last
minute. It was very unfortunate for her, but her
performances should merit another call up in the
future.
International Call Up: Congratulations to
David Joyce and Eoin Torpey from Castlebar Celtic,
who have been included in the Republic of Ireland
Under 15 squads to play at a triangular tournament
in Northern Ireland from 11-15th May. The tournament
includes Northern Ireland, Wales and the Republic
of Ireland. They are a credit to their club and
to the league and they are wished the very best
of luck from everyone involved.
Kennedy Cup Parents’ Meeting: A meeting will
take place in Milebush Park on Friday 13th May 2005
for the parents of the Kennedy Cup squad at 8:15.
It is important that all parents turn up for the
meeting as they would be given an itinerary for
the tournament and to seek volunteers to travel
to Limerick during the week of the competition.
Word of Compliment: The LMC of the M.S.G.Y.A.F.L.
received an email from Paula Walker from the Albany
Hotel in Heywood, near Rochdale in Lancashire and
she emphasised her praise for the conduct of the
boys that travelled to England recently. The mail
read as follows, “We just wanted to say that it
was a pleasure having you all staying in our Hotel.
The Lads behaviour was a credit to themselves, yourselves
and their parents. Please pass this on to all involved.
We wish them every success in the future. King Regards
Ash & Paula” The League would like to thank Paula
Walker and all the staff of the Albany Hotel for
their wonderful hospitality and professionalism
shown to the party and, hopefully, the Mayo contingent
will visit the hotel again in the future.

Blackfort Machinery Girls U.16 League:
The Blackfort Machinery U.16 Girls League recently
kicked off and it is now shut down until the Inter
Cert exams are over at the end of June. Favourites
Ballina Town and Ballinrobe Town both recorded 100%
starts to their campaign. Ballina opened their campaign
with a 5-1 home win over Manulla and scored a whopping
9-1 away victory to Ballyglass and are already looking
very impressive. Ballinrobe Town recorded a 6-0
away win to newcomers, Erris United and a 3-0 home
win to another new side to the league, Westport
United. Manulla and Swinford made reasonable starts
with Manulla overcoming Swinford and Claremorris
and the East Mayo side dispatching of Bangor Hibs
and Kiltimagh/Knock United. Erris United and Ballyglass
both recorded wins against Bangor Hibs and Westport
United respectively, while Kiltimagh/Knock United,
Bangor Hibs and Westport United all await their
first points in the league. There is a lot of football
to be played yet but on the early balance, the Big
Two of Ballina Town and Ballinrobe Town looks to
set the pace of the league.
Boys/Girls Football: The LMC of the M.S.G.Y.A.F.L.
would like to wish all the teams, players, mangers
and supporters the very best of luck for the coming
season. The Umbro U.11 Super Seven’s League kicks
off this evening (Monday) and the Blackfort Machinery
Girls U.14 League will be played on Tuesday evenings.
Wednesday will see the Dalton Inn Hotel U.14 League
in action while Thursday’s sees the Blackfort Machinery
Girls U.12 League commencing. The AIB U.12 League
will set the tone for the summer when it starts
off on Friday evening and it promises to be a summer
of fun and enjoyment for all the kids in Mayo as
the long hot summer of underage football will see
skill and endeavour across the soccer pitches of
Mayo. Good luck to all and the message is to play
fair and to encourage the kids.
Congrats: to Joe Lawless, Westport United, on winning
his first cap for Ireland against Northern Ireland
in the Annual Quadrangular Tournament in Glasgow.
The Italianesque full back started the game as the
Republic won 2-0. Joe was a prominent player for
the Mayo underage sides throughout the late 1990’s
and played for the Mayo Schoolboys/Girls and Youths
teams up to 2001.
Kennedy Cup Parents’ Meeting: A meeting will take
place in Milebush Park on Friday 13th May 2005 for
the parents of the Kennedy Cup squad at 8:15. It
is important that all parents turn up for the meeting
as they would be given an itinerary for the tournament
and to seek volunteers to travel to Limerick during
the week of the competition.
Promotion: There will be good quality footballs
available at very competitive prices from the end
of April and any club that is interested in purchasing
the same can contact Kenneth Gannon on 087-2788737
or Mary Walsh on 094-9541298 to place an order for
them. |

| Congratulations: To Ailish Collins
of Ballina Town and Hannah Callaghan of Ballinrobe
Town on recently being called up for the Irish Schools
Ladies U.15 international side. They join a long
and impressive list of underage girls from the county
to have being capped by their country and the LMC
and their representative clubs hope that they will
receive more caps again in the future. Under 13’s

Information Evening: A club
information meeting took place in Milebush Park
on Tuesday evening last with the coaches from the
Academy, headed by Head Coach, Paul Fielding. The
mission of the academy is to give players the chance
to develop to their full potential so they can play
at the highest possible level of their ability and
that the players come to learn instead of to win.
The overall attendance wasn’t as good as the organiser’s
hoped, which was a shame, but the discussions on
the night gave a positive feedback on the direction
of the underage game in the county and important
choices were made. It was proposed that from September
that the academy was to start from under 11 players
so that they can develop a good first touch and
learn to be comfortable on the ball. The under 12
academy would be used as an introduction to the
11 a side game and the under 13 academy for the
Kennedy Cup will allow players to develop tactical
awareness. It is hoped that the academy coaches
will travel to clubs to arrange sessions with the
club and surrounding clubs to help club coaches
and give new ideas to players and they will plan
to make an effort to see games to spot talent. Referee’s
may be asked to pick out the player of the match.
Opposing managers may note good players for referral
to the academy. It is important that players coming
to the academy for a trial is accompanied by his/her
parent, coach or guardian as this helps to instill
confidence in the player. Academy coach, Liam Loftus,
travelled to schools as part of the Ribena 5 a side
and has noted talent that has not signed up for
clubs and there are players missed. Liam Loftus
encourages the player to sign for his local club
and the academy aims to get more involved with the
schools with the local clubs to set up a coaching
programme in the school. An important factor for
a player is preparation and it was felt at the meeting
that the players’ own preparation is a key to success
for him in a match. Jeremy Dee explained the website
www.mayoyouths.ie to the delegation and how to explore
it for different details. Further services is currently
being discussed and may be implemented later in
the year. All the clubs received the Pepsi/Soccer
Schools form and it is hoped that the Mayo Schoolboys/Girls
and Youths League will run its own soccer school
in 2006.
Under 13’s Trip to England: The under 13

Sunday 1st May with the highlight of the trip being
a possible friendly with the Manchester United academy

| This time of year sees a lot of meetings
taking place, and in our case the annual general
meeting was held in the D'Alton Inn hotel on Tuesday
the 29th . A good attendance, just three clubs absent,
and a smooth meeting took place. Chairman Jeremy
Dee welcomed all and thanked all, in this his last
meeting as chair. Tom Mullen is the new chairperson
with Mary Walsh as vice chair. Michael Rowland is
the Youth development oficer, and as such, all queries
regarding the development plan, academies, sponsorship
and general queries should be directed to him at
087 2663704. Dave Breen (sec), Pat O Connor (register)
and Brian Johnson (treasurer) were returned un -opposed.
The U-16 girls league kicks off on Thursday next
and the rest of the season gets under way on May
2nd. All fixtures will be available on-line and
all club secretaries will be mailed with details.
A number of big games coming up and worthy of your
attention. Mayo U-16 academy v Galway & District
in Milebush on Saturday 9th at 2pm. The winners
of that one go through to the quarter finals. On
the same day the Mayo U-14 academy travel to Donegal
to take on the home side in the q/f of the inter
league competition. Castlebar Celtic take on Home
Farm in Dublin in the U-14 S.F.A.I. cup and on Sunday
10th, Erris Utd travel to the showgrounds to play
Sligo Rovers in the F.A.I. U-18 Youths competition
that they would love to retain. I hope everyone
has a great 2005 season |

Two representative sided travelled
away at the week end. The U-15s went all the way
to Duncunelly in Donegal and were unfortunate to
lose by the odd goal in three. Stevie Wallace scored
a scorcher for the visitors.
In Abbey Utd's ground in Sligo, Mayo U-14 academy
team took on Sligo Leitrim in the second group game
in their inter league competition and came away
with a very credible 3 nil win. It is worth noting
that the goal scorers were Steven Walsh, Ronan Murray
and David Cawley. David and Ronan are part of the
2005 Kennedy cup set up. And it was nice to see
that another youngster, Danny McNicolas, came on
in the second half and looked very accomplished.
This game also marked the comeback of "wee man"(Liam
Groarke) from injury and it was good to see that
he had lost none of his touches.
Two games again next week, the U-16's are away on
Saturday to Sligo/Leitrim at 2pm in Merville, and
the U-15's are at home on Sunday to the same opposition.
But lets not forgat that Kiltamagh/Knock are travelling
all the way to Arklow with their U-12s in the S.F.A.I.
competition and we wish them all the best. |

An excellent week end for Mayo soccer.
The ball was set rolling on Saturday when Kiltamagh/Knock
negotiated a tricky away tie against Shelbourne
in the SFAI U-12 cup and came away with a one nil
win. Well done to all concerned. Then on Sunday
Erris Utd travelled to Quarryvale in the U-18 FAI
Youths cup and, against the odds, came away with
a hard earned victory, having won the dreaded penalty
shoot out. Both teams have to travel again in the
next round, Kiltamagh/Knock away to Arklow Schoolboys,
and Erris Utd away to the winners of Fenit v Sligo
Rovers. We wish them the best of luck.
It would be remiss not to mention the great win
that the Westport Utd junior team had on Sunday
last away against Killester. The draw for the semi
final pairings in that cup will take place on Thursday
evening. We wish the club all the best. Next week
sees the U-14 academy side travel north to play
Sligo/Leitrim in the group stage of the inter-league
series. The U-15's are also on the road, going further
afield to Donegal in their first outing. But both
the U-15 & U-16's will be playing again on the 19th
against Sligo/Leitrim.

Weekly update. Even though the soccer
scene is quite on the domestic front, there were
a number of significant ties last week. In the Green
in Ballinrobe a long awaited U-16 girls league game
took place and as is fitting for such an occasion,
a splendid strike seperated the teams with the home
side winning on a 2-1 scoreline. Congrats to Mary
Walsh and her team, and well done to Ballina Town
for such a close run contest. Niall Harrison was
on hand to present the winners with their shield
and medals. In the U-17 FAI Youths cup round 4,
even though Castlebar Celtic had home advantage,
they lost 4-2 to Tramore in a pulsating encounter
in Celtic Park last Sunday. Ronan O Boyle did all
he could by scoring the two goals, but on the day
it just was'nt enough as Tramore ended the stronger
side. There was also heart ache for the Castlebar
Celtic U-12 side who travelled to Finglas on Saturday
to take on WFTA in the U-12 SFAI cup, only to lose
to a goal in the last minute. Celtic did advance
to the next round of the U-14 connacht cup with
a facile win over Ballyheane on the Milebush omnigrass
under lights on Tuesday last. They will be hoping
to retain that cup.
-------------------------------------------------------------
A great turn out for the skills workshop on Saturday
in Milebush should mean a well run U-11 league this
season. It was encouraging to see new faces coming
on board and Niall Harrison, RDO, was highly impressed
with his class for the day.
------------------------------------------------------------
Big game next week is the meeting of Erris Utd and
Castlebar Celtic in the U-18 FAI Youths cup, in
Belmullet at 2.30pm on Saturday. Please note the
time change.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Clubs should now be organising people for the upcoming
kick start coaching courses which will take place
at the end of March. No dates yet, but as the kick
start one is only eight hours, possibly a Friday
evening and a Saturday afternoon, it is a very do-able
course. The coaches who enjoyed the skills work
shop so much might want to take this next step and
let their club secretary know of their interest

Once again the weather played havoc
with fixtures. But the inter-league game between
Mayo U-18 Academy and Donegal did take place in
Milebush on Saturday last, at a great cost to the
pitch. Mayo were well worth their two nil lead going
into the final ten minutes, but as we all know,
soccer is a funny old game. Donegal pulled a goal
back with ten minutes remaining, and scored two
more in added time to emerge victors on the day.
Heart break for a Mayo side that had played very
well in poor conditions. Next up is their clash
with Inishown on Sunday next. Mayo need to win that
tie and also to beat Sligo/Leitrim to advance from
the group as runners up.
Saturday the 29th sees four games down for decision,
and as a good weeks weather is promised, they should
all go ahead as planned. Watch out for the clash
of Kiltamagh/Knock and Claremorris in the U-12 Connacht
cup; it should be an excellent game. |
| 17/01/05 |
|
Another poor week from a weather
point of view. Ballyglass v Bangor Hibs U-16 was
the only game to survive, Bangor winning 3-1 and
taking the divisional title. Congrats to all from
the north west.
Next week sees us play host to the Donegal league
in the U-18 youths inter league compatition in Milebush
Park @ 2pm on Saturday. With all the work been done
on the pitch at the moment, barring torrential rain,
that game should procede as planned.

A happy & prosperous new year to one and all from
averyone at Mayo Schoolboys / Schoolgirls & Youths.
Not a lot to report on the fixture front at the
moment due to the festive break and the inclement
weather, but a number of high profile games coming
up next week end, namely, Mayo Academy v Sligo /Leitrim
in the U-18 inter league on Saturday 15th @ 2pm
in Milebush Park; and Ballinrobe Town v Ballina
Town in the Blackfort Machinery U-16 Girls League
decider at the same time in The Green, Ballinrobe.
Ballina Town U-12's also play host to St,John's
of Sligo, and Kiltamagh/Knock travel to Enniscrone
in the U-16 Connacht shield. ___________________________________
We hope that all clubs have had meetings to discuss
the league time table for 2005 as we must all understand
that co-operation is the secret to a successful
league and cup programme. A positive outlook will
bring rewards to everyone, and our priority, the
players, will be given every opportunity to excell
at the sport of their choice. Do'nt forget to come
out in force to Milebush on Saturday next to support
your league in the U-18 inter league, and again
the following Saturday when the home side take on
the Donegal League in the same competition.

A big thank you to all the clubs that turned up
for the fixture meeting on Dec 20th last. It was
a very positive meeting with good input from all
concerned. The league managment committee unveiled
a complete package for the 2005 season and seem
to have covered all angles, including U-11 and
U-13 structures. It remains to be seen if the
programme can be adhered to.
On the domestic front, Erris Utd meet neighbours
Bangor Hibs in the final of the Oliver Kelleher
U-18 league on Sunday next at 2pm in Milebush
Park, weather permitting. And the U-16 girls league
will be decided on Saturday in Ballinrobe when
Ballina Town are the visitors. The Mayo U-13 Academy
team had a good work out against the South Dublin
Schoolboys League in Milebush on Sunday last.
This was just one of a number of high profile
fixtures that will be taking place as Brendan
Kenny & Paul Fielding prepare for the 2005 Kennedy
cup. Best of luck to all involved.
