Kickstart 2 Soccer Education Course:
The Football Association of Ireland are holding
a Kick Start 2 Coach Education Course in Milebush
Park, Castlebar on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, January
26th, 27th, 28th . The course shall run from 7pm-10pm
on Friday evening and from 10am to 5pm on both Saturday
and Sunday. Participants must attend all modules
of the course in order to qualify for certification.
Course descriptor is attached. Course fee is €75.
This course is limited to 24 participants so book

KICK START 2 – Introduction to Coaching Part
2 Aim: The course is designed to assist coaches
in the development of the player’s (aged 9-12 years)
soccer specific and FUNdamental movement’s skills
in game related functions, progressing into small
sided games. Objectives: To provide coaches with
the ability to: · Identify stages in the development
of young players at the Learn to Train phase · Plan,
organise and implement coaching sessions. · Adapt
activities to develop soccer specific skills in
players in the Learn to Train phase. · Reinforce
and progress the player’s soccer specific and FUNdamental
movement’s skills in game related functions, progressing
into small sided games · Plan, implement and review
sessions in a fun, safe and friendly environment.
Entry Requirements: Open to Coaches who complete
Kick Start 1. Candidates will be 16 years or over.
Candidates will be asked to abide by the Code of
Ethics/Conduct in soccer and the Code of Ethics
and Good Practice for children’s sport in Ireland.
Kick Start 2 is the second part of a two-part Introduction
to Coaching programme within FAI’s Coach Education
Scheme. Duration/Format: 20 contact hours – All
courses are subject to a minimum of 20 participants
enrolling with the course coordinator. If the required
number of participants is not achieved prior to
the course start date then the course may be cancelled
/ deferred. There are practical aspects of the course,
therefore please bring appropriate attire. Assessment:
No formal assessment required. Full attendance is
compulsory to gain certification. Certification:
Kick Start 2 coach will receive an ‘FAIreland Introductory”
certificate of attendance as part of the National
Coaching Development Programme. Course Fee and Development

23rd, 24th, 25th and Friday, Saturday, Sunday April
6th, 7th, 8th. The assessment date is Saturday 26th
May. The course shall run from 7pm-10pm on both
Friday evenings and from 10am to 6pm on both Saturdays
and Sundays. Participants must attend all modules
of the course in order to qualify for certification.

Youth Certificate – Level 1 Coaching Course Aim:
The course is designed to assist coaches in the
development and consolidation of the player’s (aged
13-18 years) basic soccer skills with and emphasis
on individual and positional specific skills, tactical
and physical development as well as performance.
Objectives: To provide coaches with the ability
to: · Identify stages in the development of young
players at the Train to Train and the Train to Compete
phase · Plan, organise and implement linked coaching
sessions · Assist players consolidate and refine
basic soccer skills · Introduce tactical and positional
skills as well as performance · Introduce soccer
specific conditioning and strength training · Optimise
fitness and soccer preparation for performance ·
Plan, implement and review sessions in a fun, safe
and friendly environment Entry Requirements: Course
candidates will be Coaches with a Kick Start 2 Certificate
or the former FAI Introduction to Coaching Soccer
Certificate. Candidates must be 16 years or over.
Candidates will be asked to abide by the Code of

and Good Practice for children’s sport in Ireland.
Youth Certificate is part a Level 1 Coaching programme
within the FAI’s Coach Education Scheme. Duration/Format:
40 contact hours – All courses are subject to a
minimum of 16 participants enrolling with the course
coordinator. If the required number of participants

the course may be cancelled / deferred. There are
practical aspects of the course, therefore please
bring appropriate attire. Assessment: Assessment
is task based and continuous evaluation: § 6 Course
Tasks § 1 In-service interim evaluation § A Log
Book § Final Evaluation On successful completion
of all tasks, candidates will be awarded the FAI
Level 1 Youth Certificate. Full attendance is compulsory
to gain certification. Certification: Youth Certificate
coaches will receive the FAIreland Level One Youth
Licence as part of the National Coaching Development
Programme. Course Fee and Development Manual (Fundamental
Phase) €300 Purchasing Goalposts: The FAI has now
in place a recommended goalpost supplier. Following
a tender process, Goalpost Ireland has been selected
as the recommended goalpost supplier for all affiliates
of the FAI. In relation to small sided goalposts,
these will still be subsidised by the FAI but should
be purchased directly from Goalpost Ireland, Tallow,
Co. Waterford.
Congratulations: To Damien McGrath, Inver,
on his recent selection for the FIFA badge in refereeing.
It is the first time that a Mayo referee has achieved
such distinction. Also best wishes goes to Martin
Roughneen who hangs up his whistle for 2007.
Vote of Sympathy: Has been extended to the
family of the late Noel McGuinness, Claremorris
FC, and to the family of John O’Hara, Foxford, on
their recent bereavement.
LMC Meeting: Will take place in the Welcome
Inn Hotel, Castlebar on Tuesday 16th January at
8:45 and Tuesday 23rd January at 8:45. All committee
members are asked to attend.
